Wire drawing
is the process by which wires are reduced
in diameter (or gauge) when drawn through
donut-shaped dies. The wire/die interface
and other working parts of the machine
require lubrication. Houghton manufactures
lubricants for all stages or the wire
manufacturing process.
Wire starts out as bar or continuously
cast stock which is rolled to 3/8î
for aluminum or 5/16î for copper.
The rod goes through the breakdown process |
and
reduced to intermediate wire (12 gauge
/ 0.081î). The intermediate
wire is draw down to fine wire (30
gauge / 0.0100î), and can be
drawn down further to ultra fine wire
(44 / 0.0020î). |
